Two Aunt Vivs, Only One Janet Hubert

Last week we were finally treated to the reunion we had all been waiting for. The Fresh Prince celebrated its 30th anniversary with a reunion special on HBO Max. It included a tribute to James Avery, who played the iconic role of Uncle Phil, and a surprise appearance by Ross Bagely, who played little Nicky. But the most talked-about part of this reunion was the return of Janet Hubert, who masterfully played the role of the original Vivian Banks, the family matriarch.

Affectionately called the "OG Aunt Viv," Janet Hubert spent three seasons laying her role's foundation. After the show's third season, Hubert and the producers could not agree on new contract terms. The disagreement, unfortunately, transpired amid some friction between Hubert and the rest of the cast. Some of that friction was aided by personal issues at home, according to Hubert. Her return last week helped launch healing for all involved after almost 30 years of not speaking.
