Off Capitalism's Clock

By Fiyah Angel

Woke up at dawn

On a Monday

Calling home the part of me

Out there in rush hour traffic

Calling back the part of me rushing to get out the door

Pushing through the workday fueled by caffeine and admonishment

Living life to the dull gray beat of capitalism’s rhythm

My life, my worth, my value

Measured in how much I could produce

How much I could give them

How much distance I could put between myself and my soul

Become a basic functioning human being

Become a machine

Under the command of the hands

On capitalism clock

I woke at dawn

On a monday

Calling all parts of me to call out of “work”

Remove myself from Kronos

Return all the badges

Come home to my own soul frequency

Radical retirement and I’m reuniting with my own heart

Rewilding re indigenizing

Reprogramming

Reminded that my ancestors dreams are indeed- wild

Calling myself off the field

Calling

Singing

Chanting

The new work is in my divine purpose

For myself

For my soul

For my folx

For my descendants

I am off the clock and in the flow

Sacred discipline

Ritual no more

Mundane routine

Full night of rest

Morning of peace

Afternoon of ease

Evening of beauty

Cozy and free by any means

I woke at dawn

Gently calling my home

Out of the hustle, the grind, the paper chase, the traffic

Made a bath and cleansed my self, cleansed my head and wrapped it
