Black Women Organizers Are the Backbone of Democracy

When Madam Vice President-elect Kamala Harris stated that Black women are the backbone of democracy during her victory speech she was both confirming and affirming generations of Black women organizers. She then followed that sentiment up with a tweet.

With the historic win of this country’s first woman Vice-President-elect, the buzz to learn more about Black women organizers increased. People want to know the women who have worked tirelessly to increase voter turnout, get more Black people elected, and fight voter suppression. These organizers often do an incredible amount of work despite a severe lack of resources or support from the Democratic National Party and they deserve their flowers.
