On Saturday, February 23, please join contemporary lifestyle brand, America Hates US, as we celebrate Black Women of Black History.

This event will feature guest speaker and a performance by roya marsh (award winning poet & educator), speakers Jameer Pond (content producer, Buzzfeed), Tiffany Dames (creator of Nubian Shorties) and Dr. Angela Hooks (educator & literary artist).

From intimate conversations and discussions about their journeys, you can expect an evening filled with gems and great connections.

ROYA MARSH

Roya Marsh is a nationally ranked poet/performer/
educator/activist from Bronx, NY. She serves as the Poet in Residence with Urban Word NYC and works feverishly toward LGBTQIA justice and dismantling white supremacy. Roya's work has been featured in Jack Theater, Dixon Place, Flypaper Magazine, Frontier Poetry, Nylon Magazine, the Village Voice, Huffington Post, Blavity, The Root, Button Poetry, Def Jam's All Def Digital, Lexus Verses and Flow, BET and the Break Beat Poets II: Black Girl Magic Anthology (Haymarket 2018).

Tiffany dames is a bronx native and proud black girl. she started nubian shorties in 2017 and has curated over 6 events in the nyc area.

DR. ANGELA HOOKS

Angela Hooks earned her Ph.D. in English literature  from St. John’s University and her MFA in Creative Writing from Manhattanville College.  She has taught literature and first year writing since 2006 in academia, but her first love and scholarship is diary writing. Her work—creative and scholarly— has appeared online and in print, nationally and internationally.
Her personal blog, Off The Hooks, is musings and inspirational stories about sharpening your saw, saw being the self.
